| I lived in Rockhampton for 3 years, and have gained a good inside into the town and it's people. Talking to the many travellers passing through this town, the most mentioned sentence would have to be. "I thought it would be bigger than this". |

If you want to spend more than a restful nights sleep in Rockhampton while travelling to the Great Barrier Reef , DON'T.
Winter is best, Summer is hell at 45 C.
Situated right between Brisbane and North Queensland with its Great Barrier Reef , Rockhampton features a vast amount of Hotels & Motels some of which are more questionable than others.
One time while checking into a motel for just a brief stay, I made mention that the stains on the sheets where not acceptable, they were then changed over for another stained sheet. When I commented again about the sheets, I was asked to leave the motel. Ohh sorry to offend you, but I do not think I would have been able to sleep that night. |

Have a look, my 7 year old boy just caught a gray nurse shark (shark swallowed hook, it died), this is in the middle of the city where the Fitzroy river flows. So you tought right, no cooling off in the river on a hot summers day.
That blue little birdie standing 1.6 meters, would split us in half with its massive claw if there was no fence to separate us. |
