Being white, and not in the tourist areas, I stood out like a living $100 bill, yet, nothing, only smiles and greetings from the locals in this massive city of Bangkok.

Public Transport is a near death experience.

I have never had as much trouble eating Thai than in Thailand . The footpaths of Bangkok are a never ending market, selling mainly food and clothes.

Gold flakes where fying everywhere

Due to the tropical climate and the lack of Glad Wrap and refrigeration, I knew one mouthful would mean getting to know the toilet in my hotel room a whole lot better for the remainder of my trip.

So we opted to eat in restaurants with refrigeration but the kitchen was on the outside of the building which meant walking through the kitchen into the restaurant.

This restaurant was called "Birds Nest and Shark Fin Restaurant" where some near extinct creatures made up the menu. By the way Birds Nest Soup looks and tastes a little like blended white bread in half a bowl of snot and some water coarsely stirred through.

I must also mention the incredible bad smell of garbage and car fumes that can not be escaped. My white shirt was grey with car smoke within hours as the air mixed with my sweat. It is not that the Thai are messy, very much on the contrary it is just that there are so many and everything decomposes very quickly with these temperatures.

It was amazing to see how when the daily afternoon rain came, every person on the street, mopped there little piece of footpath. I was also pulled up by a special tourist policeman for dropping a seed from the fruit I was eating. The comment was "Westerner pick that up". Oops!

The Thai are very respectful caring people, there is no vandalism and I only saw one small bit of graffiti on a wall (Maybe it was a westerner).

I have never seen as much gold as in Thailand, it is everywhere, leaf gold that is offered to Budda by every Thai man and woman, for a chance of a better life next time around when they are reincarnated, is flying through the air It gets caught in my hair and is in between the stones of the street.

The number one tourist attraction is the palace of the much loved King and Queen, which is situated in the city. Now, and this is important if you intend to see the palace from the inside you must realise that the palace is open every day, no exceptions.

You see as the white faced $100 bill, like me approach the tourist epicentre of Bangkok . The trickiest people I have ever had the displeasure to know compete with each other, the prize? Me. I am not talking a handful of tricky sales men and woman here; I am talking hundreds of lying cheats.

The palace is massive, and there is a wall that runs right around. Only one side has a small entrance to buy your tickets and enter the palace to see and touch all the gold it houses.

The taxi driver will tell you that the King and Queen are currently in residence and the palace closed early today.

The friendly Thai student you meet on the wrong side of the palace wall will show you one of the many locked doors of the palace and say, sorry closed for refurbishment. It is a conspiracy I tell you; remember I told you; the palace is open every day.

The purpose is to then change your plans for the day, as you have now got some spare time on your hands and drive you either to a jeweller or to the tailor.

I preferred the tailor where I had nice custom made silk shirts and pants made which will never fit me and delivered to my hotel room by the end of the day. I saw the palace the next day as I am not into jewellery.
